Can You Hit A Perfect Golf Shot Everytime?

June 13th, 2010

I have looked for it for years, now I am sure there is no such thing as the perfect golf swing.  You only have to look  at Tiger Woods, if we all tried to replicate his swing there would be a lot of injuries !  Everybody has limits to their abilities and should adjust their swing to suit their own capabilities .  Having said that the mechanics of the golf swing can be split into different areas and you can practice these various parts to strengthen your golf swing .

The Setup
This is the key to a perfect golf shot.  By getting the setup right you will constantly come back to the impact point with power and control. If you think your set up may be the cause of your bad shots , the good news is that this is certainly the easiest part of your swing to correct .  When you take your stance your feet should be approximately shoulder width apart, this can vary slightly depending on the length of the club you are going to use .  But remember that a too wide stance will limit your ability to turn and too narrow will lead to loss of balance .  At address remember to keep your back straight.  It is vital that your spine is straight throughout your swing as this is your turning axle. Always bend from the hips when grounding your club behind the ball.

A Good Golf Grip, The Basics

June 11th, 2010

A main factor in beginning a good swing with your golf clubs is having a fundamentally sound grip on the club. There are several things required for a good grip .

First, is the wrist and forearm strength , the stronger the better. How can you develope the strength of your wrists and forearms? It can be done with a simple exercise with your club. Grip the club in the last three fingers of your left hand, and hold it out straight in front of you. Then, move the club up and down using your wrist. Do this 10 to 12 times, with each hand, and three sets with at least one minute rest in between. This exercise will improve your golf grip and it will enhance your shot distance.

Second, pay attention ot your fingers. Most beginning golfers hold the club primarily in their palms which limits wrist action, decreasing power and feel in the club. So to increase power and the amount of wrist pivot, the golf club should be placed more in the fingers . You’ll see better results as it will provide more feel and longer tee shots.

The Right Golf Swing Path You Could Use

June 10th, 2010

In the game of golf what you need to succeed are precision and patience. While you also need power in your swing, it isn’t as if you are playing baseball or cricket. Blindly hitting at the ball with all your strength isn’t going to keep your score low. Instead of thinking of golf as a sport, think of it more as a form of art. If you think about other performance art, such as dance, you know that dancers practice in front of the mirror every day for hours on end until part of their body knows exactly what to do for each step. That is the same thing that you need to do if you want to improve your golf game. You need to train both your mind and your body for everything that can up on the course, whether it is a short put or a long drive. You should practice in front of the mirror or a trained professional. Achieving a great golf swing path is a major step on the long road to perfection.

The path of your golf swing is what it moves through when it goes to strike the ball. You need to have power behind your swing to get it go far, but you need to be accurate even more. Part of accuracy is choosing the right type of club, but it is much more important to line up your shot long the proper path. A proper club can be chosen by an outsider; only you control the path of your club.

Cavity Back Golf Irons, Required or Not?

June 10th, 2010

New golfers always ask which golf iron style is preferred , cavity back or blade. The cavity back has advantages and disadvantages . It has fans , and those that don’t want them.

The choice should not be made by what is popular in the clubhouse or with your friends, since that type may not fit your game. You need to find what’s right for you.

Cavity backs have grown popular for good reason . The cavity back style has metal removed from the center of the back of its clubface, producing a cavity. Removing the metal at that location re-distributes the clubhead’s weight around the edges of the clubface, fathest away from the center of gravity (which should be the center of the club head).

Golf Balls Over The Years

June 8th, 2010

Golf Balls, at the start of their launch, have constantly been mixed up in the chemistry of air pressure, turbulence, and aerodynamic form, through the physical exterior makeup performing as the most vital physical factor. Time has it that there are things that appear to be predominantly weird in their make-up over hundreds of years before which eventually lead to a better makeup designed on a range of different technical research, and it so takes place that a golf ball is the greatest example of this theoretical stand in time.

Since the first days of golf on the far eastern shoreline of Scotland, many players picked up ancient equipment in order to play the golf game in a more muddled and less formal way. At this point, the foremost golf clubs and golf balls are made up of wood. It was on 1618 that the feather golf ball was ultimately released. This was usually known as the “Featherie”. This feather golf ball was a hand-made ball constructed with goose feathers securely pressed under a horse or cowhide globe. This is carried out while the golf ball is still wet. After drying, the actual leather got smaller and the feathers stretched out producing a hardened ball. But as these kinds of golf balls are especially hand-built, they typically cost higher than the clubs. In doing so, no more than a few somewhat privileged golfers were able to have enough money to take advantage of golf games during those times.

Advice For Purchasing Golf Clubs

June 4th, 2010

I want to offer advice for you to buy golf clubs on the assumption that you are a beginner . If you are new to the game then let me first tell you what I consider to be the main clubs required to play golf . There are quite a number of other clubs you can buy but we’ll start with the basics.

The first clubs you will need are woods. Though they are called woods, they are mainly made of metal . These are for the long shots . There is much discussion as to whether a newcomer to the game needs a driver, however manufacturers have now made drivers so forgiving that you should certainly look to have one in your bag. Additionally you will need to select at least one other wood. Consider a 3 wood or 5 wood. I always keep a utility club in my bag. These clubs are handy for getting the ball out of the rough and are handy if you have difficulty with the longer irons . I use my utility wood in place of my three and four iron.

Going Long: Getting Distance with Accuracy

May 31st, 2010

Golf is a sport primarily based on mechanics. The more attention you pay to the mechanics of your swing, the better your chances of swinging for yardage and accuracy. There are lots of things that make up a good golf swing, but there are three helpful hints which you need to always consider when you’re dealing with the golf ball. The one constant with golf is always despite what you know or think you know, if you want to improve you need to keep on practicing.

So, tip number 1.  Make sure your stance feels good.  For instance, if you’re feeling like you might be bending over a lot then you likely are.  Part of your swing is a reflection of how you feel when you actually take that swing.  So take it easy, get comfortable with that stance first. Maintain your shoulders parallel to the ground and your hips in line with your shoulders (forming a square).  Focus on a comfortable stance, then start refining your stance into a powerful, precise swing.

How To Stop Hitting Pitch Shots Thin

May 30th, 2010

If you are hitting your pitch shots in golf the wrong way, you may not realize it may be because your mechanics is all wrong. You may hit the ball okay, good, great, or either thin. You want to improve your swing and contact with the ball without hitting the ball to thin. So you need to practice certain drills. Lets get started!

Get 6 tees and place them on the ground, about 2 golf-club head widths between each tee. Position your ball on the second,  forth, and sixth tee. Swing your club just like you would any other pitch shot, on the first tee.  When you swing, try to knock your tee out of the ground. Your swing will be the same throughout the forth and sixth pitch. Your pitch shots in golf will get better if you practice doing this I know it doesn’t sound like it would help, but I have done it, and it works.

Killer Tip To Cure Golf Course Woes – Learn the Knock Down

May 29th, 2010

Some trouble shots on the golf course like those from high rough or waters edge involve more beginner golf swing tips than the ordinary neophyte golfer will have at their disposal. Most of us drop too much practice period with the driver and thus are not ready for this category of shot due to deficiency of experience.

One stroke-saving shot a newer golfer should gain knowledge of is the knock-down or punch shot. The punch is a weapon that can be used in save situations when you want to advance to try to keep your score down. This shot allows you to hit the ball in a low trajectory to a controlled distance in difficult conditions via a kind of chopping motion combined with a short swing follow through.

Are Golf Shoes Required?

May 28th, 2010

Some golfers think there is a special shoe that helps to play the game better. But many new golfers do not wish to spend the extra money when they are just beginning and have not decided if the game is for them or not. So, here is the question , “Are golf shoes really required?” Within the past few years changes have taken place that alter the necessity for golf shoes. Special golf shoes are now not really required.

In the beginning , golf shoes had straight steel spikes fastened to the shoe’s sole in a threaded metal insert. The steel spikes were great for the shots that required a hefty powerful swing. They assisted you to keep your feet fastened to the ground without slipping . A detractor was that they left a lot of marks on the greens. The later in the day that you played, the more the greens were damaged and putting got more uncertain. Then, the greens had to be rolled with a heavy roller before the next days play.

Hit Your Pitch Shots From Any Lie

May 26th, 2010

Hitting the perfect pitch shot is determined by how the ball lies. You don’t have to change anything about your position most of the time. You just have to play the ball the way it lies. So first you need your “check test.”

Before any pitch shot, you want to do a check test. this means you want to examine wherever your ball lies. There are 3 ways your ball will most likely lie The first way is in a sitting up position in the fairway. The second way is if the ball is sitting in a slim rough. And third way is if the ball sitting in a deep rough. Lets look at how we can hit a perfect crisp pitch shot in these scenarios .

When the ball is sitting up- This means the ball is resting above the grass. You want to keep your stance the same, and the ball in the center of your feet when pitching from the fairway.  Here your swing will bottom out with the spot of your ball. This is the best way to hit your pitch shots because there is no interference from grass.

The Golf Swing Plane – Is it Important?

May 23rd, 2010

Many golfers have inconsistent swing planes.  Perhaps you are looking for improvement like me. I started searching for ways to fix my golf swing plane , swing speed, and consistency.  This was when I learned how to swing in a better and more consistent plane. In keeping with the general theme of this site,  I thought I would list 3 swing tips to try to help with your golf swing plane and your overall swing .

1.  Here is a very good drill to help you really feel what a proper swing plane feels like.  Address a ball at the range’ without a club in your hand.   Now,  point at the ball with your left hand, and pull back your right arm as if you’re going to shoot an arrow right thru the ball. This position is the correct position. The plane of your shoulders point at the ball. Now, hold this position, then raise your arms so that you point a couple of feet above the ball. See how this golf swing plane feels wrong ? (Too flat.) Now move your arms so you’re pointing at your left foot. Do you feel how this swing plane is too upright? Now lets go back to pointing at the ball. Turn like you’re starting your backswing, slowly. It’s hard to turn totally, but you can still feel the correct way to come back on the proper swing plane. Now, put both hands together pointing at the ball. Pull your right hand back to the shooting arrow position. Go back and forth a bunch of times. This is how the correct backswing (on plane) should feel.

The Brilliant Acer XK Pro Series Irons

May 20th, 2010

The Acer XK Pro Series irons are designed to play similar to the Callaway X-22 irons. The design looks very much like the Callaway product, and plays very much the same as the X-22 irons . Hireko is the company that not only sells the Acer clubs in the U.S., but is also the factory making the clubs in a foundry in China . Hireko is not just a manufacturer of “clones”, but they in fact own the foundry and they make their own clubs, not clone golf clubs, or “Knock-offs”. While the Acer line of golf irons may appear similar to some other OEM designs , they are actual OEM clubs , made by a very well respected company. While Hireko is not well known in the U.S.A., they are popular in the rest of the golfing world, especially Asia.

The Acer line of irons goes back a few years, and some of the first irons resemblances of the earlier Callaway X-16 model . With time the design evolved and the new Acer XK irons are the new front runner for the Hireko line of discount golf clubs. The XK irons come in the regular XK design, as well as the XK Pro Series, for low handicap golfers . The Pro Series have less offset, thinner top lines, and narrower soles, three things the better players tend to like in a set of irons . If you need more forgiveness and don’t mind giving up a bit of workability, then the Acer XK irons would be a better option . If you are looking for the most forgiveness, then the XK HT would be a good choice.

How Many Thoughts Do You Have In Your Head When Swinging A Golf Club?

May 10th, 2010

All golfers has various thoughts in their mind when they are swinging a golf club , and whilst you are a beginner it is normally ” keep your head still” of ” turn your back to the target on your backswing ”. These swing thoughts that are instilled into us on the practice range are great to make you focus on a particular element of your swing. But are they a good idea when you are out on the course trying to achieve the perfect golf swing?

I strongly believe that when you are playing in a golf competition you should not be thinking about the workings of your swing technique .  What you need is rhythm and that will be impossible if you are thinking about the mechanics of your swing. One way of achieving this is to visualize the ball in flight and see it landing right where you planned it. Keep this mental picture in your mind whilst taking every shot.

Golf Irons: Four Considerations When Buying

May 7th, 2010

Golf irons age and must be replaced after continued use. Perhaps you’ve outgrown them or there useful live is history. When buying a new set there are four important considerations to be sure to get the most appropriate clubs for your game.

1. Style of Clubhead
The style of clubhead can make a big difference in how well you strike the golf ball. There are two main types of clubhead styles, cavity back perimeter weighted and traditional blades. Perimeter weighted golf irons are more forgiving of mishits. What you sacrifice for this forgiveness is the ability to shape your shots with as much ease as a blade style iron. Most mid to high handicappers use this style of clubhead, although you do see them in some pros bags.

Forged style blades usually have an extremely small clubhead and a much smaller sweet spot. The advantage is that you can hit any shot with a blade style club. When you hit it dead center in the sweet spot it hardly feels like you’ve hit the ball at all. It’s a great feeling. Low handicappers and pros usually use this style of club, because of the feel feedback.

Do Clone Golf Clubs Perform Well?

May 2nd, 2010

The first thing that you will notice about clone golf clubs is that they cost approximately 1/3 of the price of the big name clubs. The bottom line is $900 to $1400 for a full set of name brand clubs, compared to $300 to $500 for clones. For the average golfer, with an average income, that is a very significant consideration. Why the change in pricing? It is mostly due to the millions of dollars that the brand name companies spend on advertising and professional player endorsements. They have to recover those costs and the end result is that their products must be sold at much higher prices. They also want to keep their retailers happy so they allow large profit margins, near 50%, and allow very limited deviation from the suggested retail price.

An in-depth look at the differences between clone golf clubs and those of the name brands must also include an examination of the manufacturing sources. Manufacturing of golf club heads has moved out of the USA because of the cheaper labor in China and Mexico. Presently, all clubs are manufactured outside the USA. In fact, there are foundries in China that produce both name brand club heads and clones. The assembly of golf clubs is a little different story. There is some assembly being done in the US but mainly by the clone producers because it allows greater flexibility in the custom options being offered. In general, the retailers of clone golf clubs offer an easier, broader, route to customized clubs than their name brand competitors. They offer significantly more options in shafts, grips and custom fitting services that are difficult to get in the name brands.

Three Feet From the Flag

April 27th, 2010

Although this will be short, do not underrate the information that it contains. As in life, golf isn’t necessarily about fashioning big changes, but little adjustments which can make all the difference. As in all things, there is a sequence, an order in which everything works best, and the Putt is one of those things that work much better if you follow that proper order/ sequence.

The first thing that needs to be done in the Putt sequence is to decide on your line, and this definitely needs to be done before the stroke. When you are in the process of figuring your line, pay close attention to the area of the green inside a three foot radius of the hole. This is where your ball will be rolling slowly, and any break that will happen will most likely be more pronounced. You really need to figure out where your ball should be when it enters that “red zone” to use a football game term.
